YES (Justin Mikels)
Baseball is becoming that once-hot girl with plenty of good qualities going for her... but that personality -- man, oh man -- she really knows how to push the best things out of her life. No one is good enough for her. She made up her mind what she wanted in a man several years ago and she ... Read More

It takes a lot for me to react to a televised baseball game in such a way that I wake up the kids by yelling “Oh S---!” I didn’t think ahead and yell for them to put on their earmuffs ala Old School, nor did I have the courtesy to respect the fact that my wife had just spent the last hour putting them to sleep. In essence, I was selfish, and it’s all Carlos Quentin’s fault.
I try to catch ... Read More

As the sun rose up over parts of Florida and Arizona this morning, there was a sense of anticipation and relief.
Anticipation amongst the pitchers and catchers who would be entering their spring training facilities for the first time this year, and relief from fans who could finally sense that the 2013 season was not too far away.
For many baseball fans, today ... Read More

This year has not been a great year for me -- as far as sports are concerned.
The USC Trojans entered the season as the preseason number one team only to spend the last week in December gearing up for the 6-7 Georgia Teach Yellow Jackets, whom they will face in the Sun Bowl on New Year’s Eve. Not to mention the pain I'm still feeling with them losing to both UCLA and Notre Dame in the same ... Read More

I often read and hear about players "back in the day" that bled the colors of their team. Every sport has great rivalries on paper, but do the players really care about them anymore?
I've longed thought about this topic, but the recent news of Kevin Youkilis signing with the Yankees brought it to the forefront for me again.
Sure, Youkilis isn't the best of examples. The long time Boston ... Read More

Another fantastic Major League Baseball season is winding down. It always amazes me that playoff spots come down to the last couple games of the year after a full 162 game season.
While we gear up for the playoffs, here are my projections for the end of season awards (stats are through 9/30):
American League
MVP: Miguel Cabrera - Tigers (.325 ... Read More

I consider myself a fairly knowledgeable person. I'm not smarter than you or the person sitting next to you, but I can comprehend just about anything.
Except for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
How can a professional baseball team with a lineup such as the one the Dodgers have put together have trouble scoring runs and winning games?
I tried looking at the angle of the pitching ... Read More

What a difference a year makes.
A year ago the Los Angeles Dodgers didn’t have any real expectations. The franchise was the laughingstock of Major League Baseball and fans were staying away from Dodger Stadium in droves. Every now and then we hear a little rumbling about a campaign to keep fans away from attending games to get back at ownership, but this was the first time where I actually saw it ... Read More

The landscape of America is constantly changing. Families start to lose their traditions as the kids get older, while starting new ones of their own. As a country we now seem to be quick to judge and protest instead of adhering to “innocent until proven guilty”. Heck, even country music and hockey in Los Angeles have made substantial gains over the last decade. This is just a snippet of the kind of things we ... Read More

The wave of momentum regarding the possibility of bringing Adrian Gonzalez to the Los Angeles Dodgers started to become more of a reality as Friday continued.
Forget about Carl Crawford, Josh Beckett, and Nick Punto. Dodger fans are about to get the elite first baseman they've been clamoring for ever since they realized James Loney really is a .250 hitter with very little ... Read More

We've hit the most exciting part of the season. Once the teams crack the 100 game mark we can take a closer look at the standings and get the feeling of urgency that these games count a little more than the ones prior.
Five of the six division leaders have leads of five games or less.
Rankings are not based off of W-L records alone. Other factors ... Read More

The Major League Baseball season is coming up on game 100 for many teams. In another month and a half we'll be talking about the postseason.
There have been plenty of great stories this year. From Mike Trout's stellar rookie campaign to the standing ovations Chipper Jones has received on his "hall of fame" tour, the 2012 season has been another good one.

We are in what's called the "Dog Days of Summer". Baseball is starting its second half of the season, but other than that there is not much going on as far as broadcast television.
This weekend is no exception, but I don't want you going blindly into the weekend without giving you the heads up on these events:
Friday, July 13
ET/PT
7p/4p - Los Angeles Angeles ... Read More

Thursday is usually when we release our weekly MLB Power Rankings. Due to the break in the action I thought we'd have a "fun with stats" class.
If you're a baseball fan chances are you love stats. You spend part of your day at work looking up league leaders, team rankings, situational stats, spray charts, etc.
Part of the fun at the All-Star break is to take a look at what stats some ... Read More

This has been one of the most unpredictable baseball seasons in recent memory.
Sure, in the American League we see the Yankees, White Sox, and Rangers leading their divisions. The Sox can be considered a surprise, but the real chaos is in the National League.
Raise your hand if you had Washington, Pittsburgh, and the Dodgers in first place at ... Read More
